Spotlight on values: Openness

One of our values is Openness and I recently read an article featuring a comment from Mark W Perrett, who said, ‘If you don’t go through life with an open mind, you will find a lot of closed doors.’ This really got me thinking about collaboration; our Trust mantra, that the unity in community is key, and just how valuable these behaviours, habits and actions are in closing the dream gap for our learners.

To celebrate UK Parliament Week, and the fundamental British Values that serve as the foundation to our society, we were overjoyed to run our inaugural BG6 Question Time where Year 12 and Year 13 learners put a range of our local politicians through their paces with their questions touching on local, regional and international issues. What struck me most was the mutual respect expressed by both learners and our guests, and the common thread of service and the betterment of humankind for any social stage and issue.

Bringing our BG6 learners together through our common values is at the heart of what we do, as we truly understand that while successful academic outcomes will allow our learners to knock on the door of opportunity, their holistic development and character will allow them to cross the threshold of their first choice aspiration for their careers.

We are looking forward to planning another event around International Women's Day in March, with a focus on our mission of closing the dream gap.
