Work Experience

All BG6 learners have the opportunity to complete a week's week work experience during Transformation Week, which takes place in Year 12, in July. In addition to this, all learners can choose a work experience option as part of their enrichment offer.

Transformation Week in July: work experience or university placement

Preparation for university and employment is an integral part of the BG6 programme. Transformation Week gives Year 12 learners the opportunity to complete work experience and gain a deeper knowledge of the subjects and careers they are considering. Every July learners will undertake work experience placement and or University Summer School placement related to their university or career plans.

Employability or work-readiness is becoming more and more important to universities and employers. Whilst qualifications remain essential, with very few exceptions, they are no longer the only consideration. By gaining work experience in relevant sectors our learners can gain a real advantage when applying for university or work.

The aim is to ensure that all our Year 12 learners have the opportunity to develop their profile prior to the completion of UCAS applications.

While on work experience, learners will be able to talk with and observe skilled and qualified people who can give them a better idea of what their job involves. It is an opportunity to network and find contacts. Learners find their own work placements and take personal responsibility for researching their further education and career path. They should consider the type of work they would like to do and how it relates to their future plans; think about any contacts they have and speak with staff in school to get ideas about which employers to approach. BG6 provides guidance and support throughout the process.
